Permission Denied: /usr/bin/dumpcap

Hi,

Sometimes we might face the following trouble: /usr/bin/dumpcap – permission denied. This happens because the groupname of dumpcap is different with yours. Usually, if a username is linuxuser, the groupname is linuxuser. So, when you start Wireshark and dumpcap has different groupname of yours, you will be blocked. To fix that, you can type the following commmands:

# chgrp linuxuser /usr/bin/dumpcap
# setcap cap_net_raw,cap_net_admin+eip /usr/bin/dumpcap

Start Wireshark again. At this time, it might work well…

That’s all,
