Removing GUI from CentOS

Hi,

Often, CentOS is used as a server with Gnome interface as default GUI. However, if you’d like to disable temporally and after return back, you can type the following commands below in a terminal, as root:

Disabling GUI

# init 3

Enabling GUI

# init 5

And there is possible to remove completely. For that, follow the sequence of steps below:

Change id:5:initdefault: to id:3:initdefault:

vim /etc/inittab

Remove GUI packages

yum groupremove "GNOME Desktop Environment" -y
yum groupremove "X Window System" -y
